That word is often used to describe life sometimes, even my own periodically if I’m confessing rightly here. In our busyness, we drown out all the other prompts for our attention and the demands of our bodies for rest. But why? My reason is because I too often think I must be as productive as possible to be a good __________ (wife, mother, friend, ministry partner, etc).
It’s not until I’m utterly exhausted, screaming for breath, that I realize I’ve also drowned out the whisper of our King Eternal. The One who beckons me to come to Him, to seek my identity and purpose in Him, and who promises to take my burdens and give me rest.
I so often don’t hear His whisper because I’ve forgotten that He does whisper. In the recesses of my mind and heart He still speaks, yet I often expect the God of the Universe to shout louder because, after all, He does know how many demands I have, right?! I’m grateful for His faithfulness and His Spirit which constantly brings me back to recognize the whisper of my Shepherd so I can once again repent and pursue Him with my all.
Here is a picture of where I go to hear Him the easiest. The silence of nature demands that I rest, rejuvenate, and remember His whisper.
