Number 23 – What’s your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas is by far my most favorite holiday. I love the Advent season leading up to the day of Jesus’ birth, I love the expectation and anticipation of what His birth brings to the world, the significance of God’s grace. It’s just so amazing.
Second to that is the whole atmosphere of the season (not to be confused with the materialistic advertising that I don’t pay attention to! I very much dislike the commercialism & materialism of the season). I love thinking of ways to serve others around us – neighbors, friends, the mailman & garbage men, our Compassion kids, each other. We have been drawn to practice giving in relational terms instead of materialistic ones – seeking to meet needs or let people know how much we want to build relationships with them. Click here for Advent Conspiracy’s website. I love singing carols & listening to classic Christmas music, lights reflecting from the windows and peeking through branches. I love the kids’ faces at sight of the tree, and the smell of cinnamon and evergreen. I love the briskness of the days, and having all the lights turned off except the tree. We can often be found chilling out in a dark house with only the tree to light the rooms. I just really love Christmastime!
