30 Things – #13: Growing Up

January 14, 2014

30 Things My Kids Should Know About Me | Standing at the Microphone...Number 13 – What’s the hardest part of growing up?

I think the most difficult thing about growing up is going through the situations, emotions, problems, & questions or uncertainty without knowing that it will all change. Even if you feel like you know it will all change, you still respond and act as if ‘this is it’, nothing else matters than whatever you’re going through. Know that whatever is happening in and around you is temporary. Whatever circumstances you are in will always change at some point. Sometimes it doesn’t feel good, it downright hurts, but it will change and it’s not the end of the world. Your heart will be restored after it’s broken by your “crush”. Your plans will be rewritten as you discover new things and new interests. Your friendships will morph either into nothing or into lifelong connections. You will change and that means everything around you will change because your perspective is growing. You don’t know everything – it really is true. You aren’t “stuck” even if you feel like you are. You will have good, deep, lasting friendships someday – without the drama and betrayals and selfishness (though sometimes future friendships will still look like that – use wisdom!).

When you’re growing up, you feel and think that everything is a big deal, that it affects your entire state of existence and changes the world. The reality is that, most of the time, it doesn’t affect anything beyond what you let it affect. Life keeps going, you need to keep moving forward with it – hopefully using discernment and truly following Jesus. An amazing metamorphosis happens as we grow into our own, so to speak. Embrace that as you trust God. He is your strength and your deliverer. He is your refuge, your friend, your heart’s true desire. Seek Him and let Him change you.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Tomorrow is #14 – Describe 5 weaknesses and strengths you have.
