I first heard about Rey Swimwear through a link to the founder’s (Jessica Rey) intelligent and refreshing speech on QIdeas.org. Her vision to bring modesty and style to today’s fashion world had me so intrigued. I browsed through the site and found that I pretty much adored nearly every style, I especially liked that every style was based after roles that Audrey Hepburn played in various movies (I love old movies, and I really like Audrey Hepburn as well!) The motto, “Who says it has to be itsy bitsy?”, was catchy and cute, and relayed a sense of integrity in one’s choice of swimsuit.
I’ve been pretty disgusted with the teeny string bikinis and the flaunting that happens at resorts and beaches. In fact, that’s a big reason I don’t really like going to those places. I don’t like being surrounded by scantily clad women who want that type of attention, I don’t like the comparison game that comes up within me when I see these “perfect in today’s culture” bodies around me, and I especially don’t like placing my husband in those situations where he really tries to honor me by not looking around freely (he avoids the temptation to lust by just looking away from scantily clad women) so it means that neither or us are really comfortable in those environments. That’s why I was so excited about Jessica’s message and her desire to revolutionize modesty! I LOVE MODESTY and I love that an actual designer does too and wants to bring cuteness to the modesty forum. Too often, people who want to dress modestly either need a bit of money to buy cute blouses that cover certain areas, or they get to wear t-shirts and frumpy looking stuff, or if you’re like my sister and my SIL, you have an amazing sense of taste and trendy creativity to pull it off. I do not possess that quality so I’m the one in jeans and t-shirts most of the time.
Anyway, back to my story. Ever since I first perused the site, I decided I really wanted to support this designer and get a cute new swimsuit that’s flattering and trendy. I already knew which one I wanted, it was “Ann” in Moonlit Sky.
The problem was that every single time I went to website, which has been a lot let me tell you, they have been sold out. This idea caught fire and most of the products have been sold out or on back-order for most of the year. I was encouraged because this meant that I actually had a good idea, but also that I kept waiting and waiting and nothing ever came up available. So, finally, I just emailed them and asked when I might be able to order the suit I have wanted since the beginning of the year.
To my surprise, they emailed the same day (it was over Thanksgiving holiday) and said they don’t have any, and they are discontinuing it – WHAT!!!!!! – but that there was a chance the fulfillment center might have one available. WIthin a day, she emailed me back and told me, “Congratulations! We do have one in stock but not in inventory.” I quickly talked to Paul about it (as they are not the cheapest suits) and he gave me the go-ahead, he’s simply awesome! Within a couple days, I had paid for my suit and the order was being processed! It was the fastest and most friendly clothing customer service I’ve ever been a part of.
I got my suit today.
To say that I was eager to try it on was an understatement.
Good thing I shaved my legs today because I quickly got out of my wool socks and thermal henley (etc) to don my new swimsuit. And it was…
PERFECT!!!! It really fits me well, and it’s super cute – looks just like it does on the site. In the effort of full disclosure, as soon as Claire got up from her nap, we both got in our swimsuits and paraded around for the rest of the afternoon, it’s 5° outside. What can I say, we’re really excited about our swimsuits!
It’s thick material, durable and I am so thrilled with it! It makes me feel like a million bucks, and it really is modest. I have some big jugs, and a lot of the time I have trouble not showing too much cleavage so most suits either push me nearly out of it or they go to my neck and are just uncomfortable. This suit covers me well since it covers my whole breast-y area without making me feel like I’m wearing a skimmed down burka. It supports me well too, there are bra supports sewn into the chest which is perfect for me to feel like they won’t bounce around while I run along the beach, making me look like I’ve got loose pineapples about to hit my chin.
The bottom goes to the hip so they cover the entire pelvic region, it’d be hard to get a wedgie in this suit, thank God! Also, while it looks like a two-piece (bottom/tankini), it’s actually a one-piece. The bottom is colored the same as the overlay top part until about the waist and then it’s a nude-colored fabric until the it’s sewn together at the chest & arm seams. The top part slides down to cover that and has a little green belt as well. It certainly feels like the best suit that I could have, given my body type and my desire for modesty. It also makes me happy that I now own something trendy and fashionable! Will it erase my self consciousness? No, but it will help alleviate much of my loathing of getting in a suit, that’s for sure.
I recommend this company, for their amazing customer service and going above and beyond to check on my request, and these suits, for their modesty, style and overall confidence builder to everyone who wants to go swimming one day. They are pricey, but well worth in my opinion. It’s a suit I plan to have until I die. Take to water, be modest & respectful, and look uber-adorable while doing it with Rey Swimwear!!
