I married an engineer. That statement might hit home with some of you and others might think, “So what?” Let me tell you something about engineers – they are intellectual and don’t like to waste their time and energy on things that are frivolous. Being married to an engineer also means that justifying romantic gestures and pursuit sometimes is a difficult task.
He tells me he loves me and he serves me all the time, which in his mind should be enough to tell me that he loves me. Yet going that extra mile and involving some romantic thought to the process just doesn’t enter his brain much.
I’d love to have a date where I don’t have to plan it. A weekend away just the two of us that’s a surprise to me just probably will never happen. I’m a girl who doesn’t need these gestures all the time, I’m also a more intellectual type but I’m still a woman so every so often I just wish that maybe once a year he might surprise me and show me he thought of me by planning something super special.
That’s why I really loved this post from Marian, of Battle Ready Princess, called To the Wife Who’s Husband Isn’t Romantic Enough: 5 Ways to Find that Spark Again. She shares ways in which wives often get hung up in this process of romanticism in marriage and addresses things that wives can do to specifically help and serve our husbands in this area. I love it!
While none of these tips will guarantee a perfect marriage, applying these truths will go a long way toward making you both happier. God intended marriage to be picture of His love for the church, but it can only be that if both husband and wife are willing to put the other first and let God take care of their own needs.”
I think you will enjoy this post from Marian!
